We just finished learning about 3-D shapes, angles, circles, and other polygons. Review the topic's concepts by checking out the Blendspace module below. Things to remember:
Angles, angles, angles! Angles are measured in degrees. Today, we learned about angles by dividing a circle into equal parts. Now that we know a circle measures 360 degrees, we can see that 1/4 of a circle is 90 degrees, or a right angle. Angles smaller than 90 degrees are acute angles and angles larger than 90 degrees are obtuse. We used protractors to measure all kinds of angles. You can continue to practice with a protractor using our virtual tools at home. Here is the link. Have fun measuring! We have explored three-dimensional shapes in the real world, investigated hands-on foam shapes, and used a virtual tool to help identify edges, faces, and vertices of 3-D shapes. Here's the link to the tool we used so that you can explore at home: Platonic Solids. We also discussed how shapes help people in the real world design things like buildings. We explored the works of Santiago Calatrava a famous architect. Check out his website here to see his really cool buildings that he has designed - like the Milwaukee Art Museum! Topic 1 is wrapping up! We learned about how numbers and mathematics is used in real life, how to read and interpret graphs and data, and how to use basic operations to solve math problems.
